Brenda (Alexander) Scales

Ms. Brenda Alexander Scales was the tenth of twelve children born to the late Willie George and Juanita Alexander in Alcorn County. After a brief illness, on July 31, 2024, she took her rest in the arms of God.  She is preceded in death by five beloved siblings, Nancy Finley, Marie Alexander, Ella Burkett, Arbie Nell Alexander and Marvin Alexander.

Brenda came into this world on April 10, 1961. She graduated from McNairy Central High School in 1980 and moved to Milwaukee, WI where she lived for four years before returning home in 1984.  Brenda was known as a hard worker who was dedicated, devoted and dependable. She retired from Keytronics in 2023 where she worked for 15 years.

Blessed, beautiful, bold and brave is what her two loving daughters Kenda and Kadria, who came from the union of Brenda to Kenneth Scales in 2000, saw when they looked into the eyes of their mother. She was their biggest fan supporting them in their successes and encouraging them to keep trying when they had challenges. 

Brenda enjoyed spoiling her girls, decorating, and crafting. She loved coffee, dancing, watching football, and playing FreeCell.  One of her favorite pastimes was working outdoors and building things.  The patio she built and decorated was her happy place.  The seasons didn’t matter - summer, winter, spring or fall you would find her outside enjoying the beauty around her while thinking of ways to make the space better.  Brenda also loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her best friend and younger sister Velicia.

Bighearted is a word that describes Brenda to a tee.  She loved to help others and could always be counted on. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate family and friends. Brenda LOVED big and GAVE big. Her warmth and sense of humor made her a cherished friend to many. She would embrace a person with a warm hug and then offer the cold unvarnished truth. Her selfless acts of love and kindness will be remembered and missed by those who experienced them.

Brenda leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to her loving and devoted daughters, Kenda and Kadria Scales (Corinth, MS), step-son Kenneth (Jay) Scales Jr., one grandson Kentayvious and three granddaughters (Corinth, MS),  a bonus daughter Yasmin Wade (Nashville, TN), god-daughter Tamulia Salters (Corinth, MS), her siblings Vernita Moore (Portland, TN) Georgia Pollard (Corinth, MS), George (Doris) Alexander, and Velicia Alexander of Guys, TN, Rev. Willie (Tammy) Alexander (Huntsville, AL) and Kathy Cook (Dallas, TX), aunts Alice Young (Dallas, TX), Levirdia McCroy (Milwaukee, WI), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
