Gertrude Clark Obituary

Gertrude Clark, affectionately known as Gerty, was born on February 7, 1950, in Selmer, Tennessee to the late JC and Maedell Manning. She peacefully departed this life on May 12, 2024.

From an early age, Gertrude professed a hope in Christ and united with Berea Church of Christ, where she remained a devoted member until her health declined. She served her church faithfully as the secretary and was an active member of the floral and kitchen committees. Gertrude was a mother to many and known for her culinary skills and her warm hospitality, often cooking for church events and gatherings.

Educated in the McNairy County School System, Gertrude graduated from Ramer High School. She embarked on a long and fulfilling career at ITT, where she worked for 33 years. Following the company's closure, she continued her career for another 10 years at Monogram Refrigeration.

Gertrude was a petite lady with quick wit and a big heart. She embodied the true spirit of a servant after God’s own heart with her selfless support of others. She extended beyond her family and church community as she took care of people in their homes when they were sick, offering her time, and compassion to those in need.

Gertrude’s greatest pride and joy in life was her son, Barry and her grandson, BJ. Her love for Barry was profound and limitless; he was truly the center of her world. Out of all her many accomplishments, being a devoted mother to Barry and a doting grandmother to BJ were her most cherished roles. Barry and BJ were the apples of her eye, and there was nothing Gertrude wouldn’t do for them. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love were constants in their lives, providing strength, comfort, and joy.

Known for her warm heart and genuine care for others, Gertrude was the true definition of a friend. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with people and was always there to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. Her friendships were deeply treasured, and she maintained close bonds with her loved ones throughout her life.

Gertrude enjoyed the simple pleasures of her daily routine. She cherished her mornings, sipping coffee and talking on the phone with her close family and friends. Her afternoons were often spent enjoying her favorite court shows and episodes of NCIS. These small rituals brought her great joy and comfort, reflecting her contentment in life’s everyday moments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, JC and Maedell Manning, and her brother, Paul Luster.

Gertrude’s legacy of love, kindness, and friendship will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind her devoted son, Barry (Lori) Clark, her adored grandson, Staff Sergeant Barry “BJ” Clark, stationed at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia; special loved ones, Joyce Strickland, Ruthy Ann Campbell, Hosea Sheffield, Vilene Windom and countless friends and family who will miss her dearly.
