Osie B. Toomer was born in Alcorn County on December 7, 1934 to the late Vermont and Irene Toomer. He attended Scale Street School in Corinth, MS and graduated from the school of hard knocks. A baseball lover, he was a member of The Negro Baseball League and played for the Memphis Red Sox in 1957. He married the late Shirley L. Pollard on June 20, 1961. They were married 50 years, and to this union three children were born. He was retired from Tyrone Hydraulics Company in 1984. He was avid hunter, and gardener.
Osie was preceded in death by his parents, Vermont and Irene Toomer; wife, Shirley Toomer; five sister: Ethel Norman, Margaret Lane, Katie Mae Betts, Mary White, Alma Gallbreath; three brothers: Stant Toomer, Edward Rucker, and John Richard Toomer; one daughter, Tara L Toomer.
He leaves to cherish his lovely memories, one daughter, Kimberly Jones; one son Bernard (Valerie) Toomer both of Corinth, MS; god daughter, Vanessa Leslie of Paducah, KY; six grandchildren Ive Toomer, Trevor Toomer, Denzel Toomer, Morgan Toomer, Aaliyah Jones, Jimarius Barnette.
